Characterizing White Matter Changes along Fibers in Treatment-Naive Pediatric Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

چکیده
Children and adolescents are more susceptible than adults to developing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Pediatric PTSD is characterized by functional alterations in brain fear circuitry, but little known about the underlying microstructural changes; previous work has mainly focused on corpus callosum. This study aimed at investigating brain-wide abnormalities pediatric PTSD, their relationship age sex, potential diagnostic value. The microstructure of major white matter tracts was assessed from diffusion tensor images acquired 24 treatment-naive non-comorbid patients <18 years trauma-exposed non-PTSD controls (TENP) matched for age, education. Statistical analyses included pointwise comparisons, correlations with symptom severity, diagnosis-by-age/sex interactions; support vector machine were conducted determine whether distinguishes TENP. Compared TENP, showed higher fractional anisotropy lower radial diffusivity right superior longitudinal fasciculus axial uncinate fasciculus. These highly correlated severity. No significant diagnosis or sex interaction observed. measurements presented best vs. TENP classification performance. In summary, clinically relevant fasciculus, which extend understanding neurobiology beyond callosum have distinguishing stressed individuals without PTSD.

Analyzing White Matter Integrity Changes Associated with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Veterans
Introduction: War-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common persistent medical problem in veterans, characterized by recurrent trauma memories, and fear response / physiological reactivity to the trauma reminders [1]. Previous neuroimaging studies have revealed cortical and subcortical abnormalities in PTSD, indicated by the reduced volumes of prefrontal cortex (PFC), anterior ci...

With the increasing emphasis on multi-disciplinary approaches to assessment and treatment, assessment tools also must facilitate communication, not only among clinicians, but between clinicians and regulatory bodies, such as utilization review committees with managed care environments, and with schools (Saigh, 1996). متن کاملReduced hippocampal volume and total white matter volume in posttraumatic stress disorder.
BACKGROUND Reduced hippocampal volumes in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients are thought to reflect specific changes of this structure. Previous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have not consistently examined indices of overall brain atrophy, therefore it cannot be completely ruled out that hippocampal changes are explained by whole-brain atrophy. The purpose of this study wa...
